Update Info for ProFile software Version 4.12
=============================================

Installation
-------------

Start the new MANAGER.PRG and execute the "Update driver" function for
all protar harddisks (or all removable disk cartridges, as the case may be).
This process transfers the new driver to these disks. No data is lost
during this process under normal circumstances. Please remember that it is
also necessary to execute this function on all non-protar disks which the
protar driver is to incorporate. Here too, NO DATA IS LOST!

Please remove (or replace, as the case may be) >>>ALL<<< OLDER VERSIONS
of the MANAGER, BOOT, PROCTRL etc. on your hard disk (or cartridges).

Innovations since 4.12:
-----------------------

 - Support of new drives:
   	1. SEAGATE ST3283N

Innovations since 4.11:
-----------------------

 - Support of new drives:
   	1. SONY SRD 2040
   	2. MAXTOR 7120S

 - Software is more Compatible (STOS game creator now works !!!).
ATARI has released in their programming guide lines (since 1984 !!!),
that during GEMDOS-Calls the CPU-registers d0-d2 and a0-a2 could be
destroyed by the system. But this was not mentioned by all software
developers. For this reason, the ProGate driver will not use register
A1 any longer. Sorry, it is/was not our bug !

 - The format/partition graphics in the manager dialogs will work better
now in medium resolution. (White segments are to be ignored, Sorry !)

 - Modified version of the Edison Utility with english text.
(Not very good, but functional. It was only patched with a disk monitor)

Innovations since 4.10:
-----------------------

 - Reading/Writing of MSDOS-formatted (removable) harddisks:

The MANAGER.PRG knows the format of MSDOS-medias and allows to show
the partition numbers, types and sizes.
during media change or with the "Reinstall" button in the ProCtrl.PRG/ACC.

   ATTENTION: - MSDOS-medias are NOT AUTO-BOOTABLE !
   					- TOS 1.4 (or newer) needed !

 - The delay times (timeouts) during scanning the ACSI/SCSI bus are reduced.

Innovations since 4.02:
-----------------------

 - The dma-timing is improved
(QUANTUM-drives will need a very long timeout !)

 - During the scanning of ACSI-/SCSI-bus the actual unit number
   is shown.

Innovations since 4.01:
-----------------------
 - The input of the password works again

Innovations since 4.00:
-----------------------

 - Support for the new ProFile ||-Serie:
The Manager allows the choice of the hostadapter as device 7.
You can set or remove the hardware-protection ore reset the SCSI-bus.
The same functions are available in the ProCtrl.PRG/ACC too.

 - The harddisk-access and status can be shown in the upper left corner
    by symbols.

 - The switching from low rezolution to medium rezolution is optional.

 - The software is more kompatible for the following points:

 	a) Running with MultiGEM (Multitasking GEM)
 	b) The hardisk driver supports partitions with atari-untypical
 	   sector/cluster sizes. (works better with MSDOSen-emulators !)

 - The ProCtrl.Acc (New 1.5) supports the VA_START message of GEMINI's
AV-protocoll. If You drag a (unknown) drive icon onto the ProCtrl.Acc
icon, the harddisk drive will perform reinstallation of all connected
   	devices.

 - The manager allows to reinstall the connected devices if the ProCtrl.Acc
    is installed.

 - The manager gives more detailed error messages.

 - Correction of the CACHExxx.PRG (new V1.2). The install message was
wrong if the fastload flag was set.

 - New version of BOOTINST.PRG. The boot-delay-program will not access
    device 7 any longer.

 - The restoring of partition infos will work everytime !

Innovations since 3.01:
-----------------------

 - Operates on the AtariTT and Atari MegaSTE. The internal hard disk is
displayed as "ProFile 40" on address 0. (See also paragraph below about
    installation on internal hard disks)

 - Support for TT-SCSI interface

 - Partition information can be stored on diskette; in case of an
accident, they can be copied back to the system.

 - To change the boot drive, it is no longer necessary to press the
SHIFT key; it is sufficient to enter the drive character.

 - The Manager.Prg is automatically terminated after "Save Config".

 - It is now possible to subsequently alter the partition attributes
    (status, name, drive).

 - During the boot process the system automatically switches from low
resolution to medium resolution so that a better view of the boot
    phase can be obtained.

 - Both ProCtrl.Acc and BootInst.Prg automatically use text
corresponding to the respective domestic language.

 - The CachB???.Prg program has been replaced by Cache???.Prg.

 - The ProFile diskettes contain a public domain program called
Edi_Util.Acc which incorporates a mouse accelerator, a screen saver and
    a new file selector.

Bug eliminated
--------------

 - ProCtrl crashed when there were different driver versions in the
    system together.

 - The CachB???.Prg program caused errors when large sector sizes were
involved. This program version has been replaced.

 - Some diskettes were supplied with a defective version of the
    BootInst.Prg program.

Installation in conjunction with an already existing internal hard disk
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
(TT / MegaSTE)
--------------

There are two possibilities:

a) You can use the Atari software and do without the special
capabilities offered by the protar software.

    When using an AtariTT, set the protar hard disk to ACSI Number 0;
when using an Atari MegaSTE, set it to ACSI Number 1.
The Atari software automatically incorporates the respective hard
    disk into the system.

b) When using the protar software, it is essential to ensure that the
first hard disk (SCSI or ACSI) in the system is a protar disk or that it
is protar formatted, respectfully. The internal standard hard disks are
displayed as "ProFile 40", although they have an Atari format. It is
necessary to make a backup of any existing data which should not be
lost, and to restore this data back to the system after the internal
hard disk has been formatted with the ProFile Manager.
